What is Massage ? Back to top

The word massage, is thought to  originate from the Arabic word mas,h which means to press softly, massage has been around for a long time, the Chinese wrote about it 5,000 years ago and Hippocrates the father of modern day medicine often referred to the benefits of rubbing and kneading. More recently Swedish physiologist Per Henrik Ling developed and classifies a system of massage movements in the 1800s that is still used today.

There are many different massage techniques from around the world, but fundamentally they all have similar therapeutic effects at different levels and involve the laying on of hands.

When these points are pressed they release muscular tension and improve blood circulation. The same points are used in Acupuncture and Shiatsu, Acupressure  was actually used before the Chinese developed Acupuncture. The advantage of Acupressure is that you can apply it to apply to yourself at any time, it can help you sleep, relieve stress, headaches, sinus problems, muscular pain etc.
