Holistic Therapy Guide

 

Holistic Therapy is also called Complementary Medicine and Alternative Medicine.

The holistic therapist looks at the "whole person" Holistic or "wholistic" Therapy approaches all parts of the person, not just the physical aspect where illness is the most apparent. The mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects are taken into consideration.

Acupressure - is a form of Chinese medicine, it uses the fingers to press key acupressure points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self healing abilities. Acupressure is applied with pressure from the hands and fingers to the acupuncture points without needles. The Chinese have been using acupressure for over 5,000 years......

 

Acupuncture - is an ancient method of healing that uses needles inserted at special acupuncture points along lines in the body called meridians. Meridians balance the flow of energy in the body enabling it to heal itself, it originated in China thousands of years ago, there is also a Japanese system of acupuncture...... 

 

The Alexander technique - aims to improve your body movement, balance and posture, with bad posture comes long term joint damage cramped internal organs, round shoulders, respiratory ailments, muscle stiffness, and slouching. Bad posture becomes such a long term bad habit we often don't even know we are doing it! .......

 

Allergy Guide - An Allergy is an abnormal reaction or sensitivity to a substance or "allergen" you have an allergy contact with. These substances brings on certain symptoms like sneezing, coughing, sore eyes, wheezing, rashes, headache, sickness, nausea, stomach cramps, and even unconsciousness.

Some people have severe even life threatening allergies which need immediate medical attention this is called aphylaxis......

 

Aromatherapy  - Is the ancient art of healing and improving health by using natural plant extracts called essential oils found in plants, fruits, flowers, bark, roots, or resin. Essential oils give plants their aroma and flavour, we have all experienced the wonderful smell of essential oils, every time you peel an orange the refreshing oil squirts out of the peel, or you have been drawn to the intoxicating aroma of a beautiful rose, just to sniff the essential oil in a fresh rose lifts your spirits.....

 

Application of Aromatherapy Oils - Essential oils can be used in your home in a variety of ways, the smell alone will give you pleasure, not to mention the therapeutic properties. You don't need any special equipment it can be as simple as unscrewing a bottle and sniffing it. We have listed some popular methods of use......

 

Aromatherapy Chemistry - Essential oils are not actually oily most of them are very light liquids that do not dissolve in water but evaporate instantly in the air. The liquid is held in tiny sacs in the plant, to get the liquid before it evaporates can be very difficult, there are 4 ways to do this, distillation, expression, maceration, effleurage, gas extraction, solvent extraction......

 

Aromatherapy Carrier oils are used as a medium to dilute essential oils before applying them to the skin. There are several you can use with therapeutic properties of their own. Only use vegetable or nut oils as mineral oil blocks the pores. Macerated oils make an excellent base these are oils that have had a herb steeped into them which is infused into the oil giving it extra properties...... 

 

Aromatherapy Blending - Essential oils are blended with two things in mind therapeutic properties and aroma. Several oils blended together are called a synergy and the right combination is very important so they work together and do not pull apart. In general most oils from the same family blend together, see the A-Z of oils most florals blend with floral and wood with wood see fragrance chart...... 

 

A-Z of Essensial Oils - Each essential oil has many different constituents too many to list here e.g. rose has over 300 alone, where do they come from? what do they do ?......

 

Ayurvedic Medicine - has been the traditional medicine of India and Sri Lanka for at least the past two thousand years. It is a comprehensive healthcare system that treats disease with natural therapies and considers that each person must be treated individually. It is concerned with the mind and spirit as much as the body, and seeks to guide individuals to their natural, inner harmony......

 

Carbohydrate - forms from Plants form sugars in their leaves by the action of sunlight, then they store them in their stems, roots, tubers, or seeds as starch. Starch stored in unripe fruits turns into glucose or sucrose on ripening. Starch is the major energy reserve in most plants and in turn provides a major energy source for humans......

 

Chakras - The energy centers of the body which are essential to our well being are called Chakras, the word is actually Hindu and means wheel of energy, there are 7 major chakra points in the body, and they channel spiritual energy and emotions throughout our bodies, each link is also associated with a specific body organ.

The foot has many bones , tendons and ligaments and is a very complex structure. Chiropractor - Chiropractic is based upon the theory that good health depends on the proper function of the nervous system especially those of the spine, chiropractic means "effective treatment by hand" Chiropractors believe that many diseases are caused by the body being unable to adapt to its environment, chiropractors locate and adjust musculoskeletal areas of the body which are not working properly......

 

Colonic Hydrotherapy - Many modern day food products are known to be contaminated with chemicals, hormones, toxins and the like, and this combined with our bad eating habits generally can cause toxins to accumulate within our body which can reduce our natural defences against disease and immunity to illnesses......

 

Crystal Healing uses crystals or gemstones. The crystals are placed on specific areas of the body called "chakras." Chakra is a Hindu term meaning spiritual energy. There are seven basic energy centres in the body, each having a colour associated with it. The same colour crystal as the colour of the chakras can be placed on the person to enhance the flow of energy......

Iridology is the scientific analysis of the iris which is the colored part of the eye, study of an iris reveals  health problems and constitution, this is done by examination of the color, markings and spots on the iris. Each body organ and gland is located on either the left or right iris, organs on the left side of the body show in the left iris and on the right side the right iris, anything in the center shows up on both iris......

 

Kinesiology is defined primarily as the use of muscle testing to identify imbalances in the body's structural, chemical, emotional or other energy, to establish the body's priority healing needs, and to evaluate energy changes brought about by a broad spectrum of both manual and non-manual therapeutic procedures......

Massage treatment - with a professional therapist usually consists of a massage after they have given you a consultation and decided  which oils are best for you. This is a holistic treatment for mind body and spirit everyone should try it at least once ! although its not the same as a professional treatment you can try it out on a friend, here are a few tips.....

 

Meditation - is a state of mind that makes us feel at peace and serene, it is a tool to help us wind down and chill out. Reflexology - A holistic healing technique applied to the feet in the form of a pressure massage. Pressure is applied to precise reflex points on the feet, reflexologists see the entire body mapped out on the feet in a mirror image. This mirror image is also evident in the iris of the eye the ears and hands. It is widely believed that reflexology started over 5,000 years ago in Japan...... 

 

Reiki - pronounced ray-key translated means " spiritually guided life-force energy " it is energy healing from the laying on of hands.
