How To Apply Eye shadow

Application of Eye Shadow

The eye shadow you choose should flatter and enhance your eye colour and the shape of your eyes, as well as your whole appearance. The skin colour, the eye colour, and day or night should also be considered when choosing and using eye shadow. Always harmonise the colour of the eyeshadow with that of your skin and your eyes. Whatever the colour, it should be blended in well, so that there are no harsh lines. Aim for the natural look

Almond shaped eyes are considered to be the ideal. So when making up eyes, one tries with the help of light and dark eye makeup to make the necessary changes to give the eyes an almond appearance

Techniques of applying eye shadow shades
1. Using a soft shadow brush, gently apply the base colour to the entire lid from the inside to the outside corner and from the base of the lashes to the eyelid crease.
2. If the eyes need extra definition, a deeper shade is blended into the crease line. This gives depth to the eyes.
3.The brow bone is highlighted with a light shade. This gives the eyes a wide, open look. The colour is applied to the most prominent area and blended up towards the brow and down to where the contour curves down, toward the eyelid creases.
Before using them on the lids, always test the colours on the back of the hand to test the intensity. You can use even 3-4 colours, provided they are blended well. Remember pale tones emphasize, while deep sooty shades define.

Different Eye Shapes

Almond shaped eyes This is the perfect eye shape, and easy to make-up. Apply lighter shade from lash to brow. Medium shade on lid. Dark shadow on outer third of lid. Generous coats of mascara for lashes, comb well.

Round eyes  To make them appear more almond-shaped, use light-toned shadow all over top lid, darker in entire crease. Line top and bottom lid, extend liner out and up at end. Mascara for top lashes only, more on outer half.

Small eyes To enhance small eyes line upper and lower (never inside). Use pale, shimmery, eye shadow. Curl lashes. Apply a medium-toned shadow to the crease. Use a light coloured liner the top and bottom lash lines, extending the top line across the entire lash line and the bottom line from just under the iris to the outer corner. Sweep black mascara on upper lashes. Apply light shadow on the eyelids. Apply more intense shades in the creases.

Close set eyes These eyes can have a dramatic, sultry look. It can be enhanced by colour near the eye's inner corners. Extend smoky shadow beyond outer corners to exaggerate them. Brush lashes out. Apply the most intense colour near the outer corners of the eyes.
Line top and bottom of eyes in any colour, but begin drawing a quarter of the way out from the inner eye. Smudge lines. Brush mascara on to upper and lower lashes

Deep set eyes  Use light shade from lash to brow, slightly darker above the crease on brow bone. Use eye pencil or liner on both top and bottom of the eye, smudge to soften. Lots of mascara for all lashes, comb well.

Wide set eyes  Apply a light to medium shade from lash to brow. Place darker shadow shade near eye's inner corners, continuing across lid and feathering out lightly towards temples. Focus liner, mascara on inner corners.

Hooded eyes  These eyes are set so the natural crease in the eyelid is not readily seen. Highlighting the brow bone and lining the lash base gives hooded eyes an lovely shape. Apply a medium to dark shadow on the crease and hooded area. Sweep a lighter shadow on the brow bone and on the inside corner of the eye. Apply black mascara to upper lashes. Line upper lash-line only. Gradually soften shadow as you approach the brow.

Prominent eyes These eyes which set far forward in the face tend to dominate the facial features. The eyelids are too pronounced. Medium to deep shades of shadow on the lids help to minimize their appearance. Liners applied to the lash bases from corner to corner gives prominent eyes a smoldering and mysterious look.

Oriental Slant eyes These eyes have a distinctive lift at the corner and have very little lid. The depth of the eyes can increase by deep shades of eye shadow and the dimension can be increased by applying eyeliner as close as possible to the lash base. Draw a a quite thick line all the way across the top lash line with a brown or black pencil. Apply a medium to dark shadow on the lid and in the crease.
Finish with a coat of black mascara on both upper and lower lashes.
