What's Colon Cleansing ?
Many modern day food
products are known to be contaminated with chemicals, hormones, toxins
and the like, and this combined with our bad eating habits generally can
cause toxins to accumulate within our body which can reduce our natural
defences against disease and immunity to illnesses.
Basic health begins with colon care. Eliminating
undigested food particles, glandular and cellular debris, excess mucus,
gas and parasites play an essential part in the digestive and
assimilative process. |

Colonic Hydrotherapy/Colonic Irrigation/Colonic
Cleansing
Colonic Hydrotherapy is an internal bath to help cleanse the colon (large
intestine) of poisons, gas, accumulated fecal matter and the mucus deposits.
Filtered water is gently through the colon to help expel waste products and
compacted deposits.
Colonic Hydrotherapy is an integral part of a modern naturopathic approach to
health and has been practised for thousands of years. It has its origins in
ancient Egyptian, Chinese and Indian civilisations and it was used in UK
hospitals until relatively recently when the cost became uneconomical in face of
strong purgatives used before bowel procedures.
Lab Tests
From an external scientific laboratory the following tests can be carried
out for an extra charge.
A full analysis from the tests is sent to the practice and individual
recommendations regarding diet and supplements can then be given.
•
Intestinal Candida and other fungi
•
Intestinal parasites
•
Complete status of intestinal
colonization(fungi and bacteria)
•
Leaky gut
•
Pancreas function
•

•

•
Colo-rectal tumour marker
•
Intestinal bleeding
•

There
are five main methods to cleanse their colon. These are:
-
Colonic Hydrotherapy
-
Sometimes referred to as a colonic or
colon hydrotherapy, colonic irrigation is recognized as a highly
beneficial approach to the health care of the colon. A colonic
irrigation treatment is an internal bath that uses a professionally
designed machine to give a high irrigation of the colon (large
intestine).
-
Enemas -
are a treatment that
has been used for many centuries to treat constipation. Their
effectiveness, however, depends on the type of enema that is used.
In general, enemas will only remove material from the lower part of
the colon and none are able to oxidize or melt away the compaction.
They are useful, however, for emptying the rectum , which is the
lowest 8 to 12 inches of the colon. On the other hand, many do not
like having to insert the enema into their rectal cavity.
The main types of enemas are water enemas (similar to hydrotherapy
except using a bag as much less water), coffee enemas, and clay
enemas
-
Herbal supplements -
There
are many products that contain psyllium husk. These are classified
as herbal supplements and come in pill or capsule form. Psyllium is
a bulk-forming laxative and is high in both fiber and mucilage. The
laxative properties of psyllium are due to the swelling of the husk
when it comes in contact with water. The resulting bulk when
ingested stimulates a reflex contraction of the walls of the bowel.
The psyllium acts as a hard sponge as it works it way down. This
often causes an emptying of the bowel. Why herbal supplements can be
effective for short term bowel emptying, they are not effective in
fully cleansing the bowel, removing much of the toxic waste, or
improving the health of the villi in the colon. In a sense, these
types of products cause contraction but not oxidation—they do not
internally cleanse.
-
Laxatives -
are used as
temporary treatments of constipation. While they are often effective
at clearing you out, they do not cleanse. They don’t touch the
compaction one bit. Further, there are serious contraindications
including dehydration and loss of muscle around the colon lining.
This is the most dangerous treatment for constipation. If you want
to treat temporary blockage, a laxative may be helpful. If you want
to experience the benefits of a proper colon cleanse or have mild or
chronic constipation, however, they won’t be of much use to you.
-
Oxygen based Cleansers
- The only true way you’re going to melt away that compacted
matter is through an oxidation reduction reaction. Oxygen based
cleansers use specialized ozonated magnesium oxidesto reduce the
solid toxic mass into a liquid or gas form. The good ones work in
the whole system, not just the large intestine as the other forms of
constipation treatments. The ozonated magnesium oxides are able to
clean the entire intestinal tract and deliver much needed oxygen
along the way. While psyllium and other fiber
products simply scrape matter out through the center of a clogged
colon, oxygen therapy removes old, impacted fecal matter as it
detoxifies and cleans the entire colon. By thoroughly cleansing the
entire intestinal tract, it allows room for a normal bowel
processes.
What
are the benefits of Colonic Hydrotherapy
Many modern day food
products are known to be contaminated with chemicals, hormones, toxins
and the like, and this combined with our bad eating habits generally can
cause toxins to accumulate within our body which can reduce our natural
defences against disease and immunity to illnesses.
Basic health begins with colon care. Eliminating
undigested food particles, glandular and cellular debris, excess mucus,
gas and parasites play an essential part in the digestive and
assimilative process.
Due to technologies of food processing -- the use of
preservatives, pesticides, herbicides, and chemical and hormonal food
additives the need for cleansing the colon has never been greater.
Many of these toxins are reabsorbed into the bloodstream, lymph, liver,
and nervous system, thus straining and eventually weakening the body's
defense against viruses and foreign bacteria.
The result is a breakdown which affects the body as a
whole. An increased toxic load contributes to the problems
associated with the colon: constipation, toxemia, colitis, diarrhea,
skin blemishes, low back pain, and headaches ect.
Colonic irrigation helps to clean out the accumulation
of stagnant toxin-producing matter in the colon pockets and keep the
colon muscles toned. Improved muscle tone of the colon allows for
the efficient removal of waste products from the body.
Purification of the systems of the body helps restore internal balance
and overall health.
What can Colonic hydrotherapy Help With ?

What
happens during a
Colonic Hydrotherapy
Treatment
The application is a safe, gentle infusion into the rectum of warm,
filtered water which circulates throughout the colon, dissolving and
removing its contents, while the client lies comfortably on a table.
Water temperature and pressure is closely monitored and regulated during
a series of fills and releases to aid in the peristaltic action of the
colon. A hospital gown ensures complete coverage for modesty and
warmth.
As the method involves an enclosed system, the waste
materials are removed without the unpleasant odours or discomfort usually
associated with enemas.
A colonic is a forty-five-minute procedure which is
restorative, relaxing, and effective. It should be given by
trained professional. The cost is approx £60 plus per treatment. An
initial course of six treatments is recommended preferably one week
apart
Training to be a Colon Hydrotherapists
The
Association & Register of Colon Hydrotherapists
The
training of colon hydrotherapists in the U.K. has undergone a major
review during 2003/2004.
The Association has adopted a uniform syllabus for all colleges, has
increased course teaching hours and set common standards for the
initial and continued auditing of teaching colleges.
Colon hydrotherapy courses will continue to be taught at postgraduate
level only, and prospective students will either be trained in
conventional medicine (i.e. M.D. or RGN) or be graduates of
a substantial body-based therapy course which includes in-depth
anatomy and physiology
Training
