If you are just learning about therapy the chakara system may seem a bit strange at first, we have to remember that many wonderful therapy treatments have come to us from far eastern sources so we have to try and understand some of the culture behind the treatments (crystal healing uses the chakra system). One of these concepts is the human energy fields or as you may know it the aura, it is often thought of as a rainbow of hazy colour surrounding the body (Aura).

The energy centers of the body which are essential to our well being are called Chakras, the word is actually Hindu and means wheel of energy, there are 7 major chakra points in the body, and they channel spiritual energy and emotions throughout our bodies, each link is also associated with a specific body organ.

The energy pattern around each centre is a definite colour corresponding to its basic frequency. This colour indicates how well the life force is flowing around our body. When Chakras are normal they will be a perfect colour but when they are out of balance or blocked this may indicate illness and the colour will be mottled or murky. For example if you have suffered an emotional upset the heart chakra will be affected and shut down.

Colour is a form of light, an energy vibration.
Every living thing or object comprises of energy.
Modern physics has accepted that solid objects are made of energy that simply vibrates at a different "heavier" frequency.
Sunlight consists of the entire electromagnetic spectrum.
Sir Isaac Newton discovered how a beam of light could be split into colours using a prism.

Sir Isaac Newton discovered ordinary white light had seven colours, Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red, Colours of the rainbow

Included in the electromagnetic spectrum are cosmic rays, gamma rays, x-rays, ultra violet, short-wave infrared, infrared, radio waves, and electric waves.

It's believed colour vibrates at a higher frequency than sound, and therefore, has a stronger effect on the human body, setting off more powerful chemical reactions. As colour enters the brain, it stimulates the pineal / pituitary glands, which release hormonal substances that affect our body.

Every body part, cell, organ, tissue and endocrine gland vibrates to a certain frequency - every individual has a certain 'Normal' frequency. 'Disharmony ' and 'Illness'- is created when for some reason the normal frequency is unbalanced.

Individual colours vibrate at there own frequency. We need a balance of all colours in order to maintain health on al levels Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual. These vibrations can adjust certain disorders because they normalize the Etheric Body.

 

The Human Energy Field

known as the 'Aura' consists of three layers.

  • The Etheric Body

  • The Astral Body

  • The Mental Body.

Within this energy field is the Chakara System.

The word Chakara is an old Sanskrit term meaning 'Wheel'. Each Chakara is believed by Indians to resemble the petals of a lotus flower. Each Chakara pulsates and moves taking in energy from light.
And each resonates at different frequencies.

This energy, which moves through all seven Chakaras, can become blocked or disturbed because of emotional upset or extreme stress. The body becomes unhealthy when this energy is not balanced or corrected, allowing toxins to accumulate, in time physical illness can follow.

 

Chakara Re-Balancing through the use of Colour and Sound

The seven colours relate to a Chakara, an Endocrine Gland, a Music note an Element, and a Sense.
By reading, learning and understanding, you can do simple things to rebalance your Chakaras, and bring balance back into your being. When there is a dysfunction or blockage in one part of the system, it has an impact on all the other parts

Base Chakara 1st

We have all heard that the impact of colour can effect our moods right ? A colour therapist takes this one step further, thinking that coulor hues can treat illness, improve physical , emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Colour therapists believe we all have a Aura or energy field around us which reflects your state of health.

In 1984 professor Harry Wohlfarth from Canada demonstrated that yellow and red are the most stimulating colours and blue and black the most calming. Research suggests that ultraviolet light can be used in treating depression, but more studies are need on coloured light.

 

Blue
Blue is a cool, calming colour and is associated with a higher part of the mind. It represents the night, so it makes us feel calm and relaxed as if we are being soothed by the deep blue of the night sky. Light and soft blue, make us feel quiet and protected from all the bustle and activity of the day, and alleviates insomnia.

 

Blue inspires mental control, clarity, and creativity. Midnight blue has a strong sedative effect on the mind, allowing us to connect to our intuitive and feminine side. But too much dark blue can be depressing.

 

Magenta
When we are feeling despondent or worried, or are feeling angry and frustrated, magenta draws us out of this attitude and lets our spirits soar. It is a spiritual colour but also with practical overtones, associated with a compassion, support and kindness.

 

From a negative perceptive, magenta, like violet, makes us desire to be lifted out of the demanding world and avoid challenges. It can also be too relaxing. So avoid magenta if you are chronically depressed or introverted

 

Black
This colour is both comforting, protective, and mysterious. It is associated with silence, the infinite, and the feminine life force-passive, uncharted, and mysterious. Black can also prevent us from growing and changing. We often cloak ourselves in black to hide from the world.

 

White
The colour of ultimate purity is white. It is an all-around colour of protection, bringing peace and comfort, alleviating emotional shock and despair, and helping inner cleansing of emotions, thoughts, and spirit. If you need time and space to reflect on your life, white can give you a freedom, and uncluttered openness. Too much white, however, can be cold and isolating.

 

Grey
Grey is associated with independence, self-reliance, self-control. Grey acts as a shield from outside influence. However, grey generally has a negative feeling-thick grey clouds, fog, smoke. Grey is the colour of evasion and non-commitment since it is neither black nor white. It relates to walling everything off, remaining separate, uncommitted, and uninvolved, inevitably leading to loneliness. It also denotes self-criticism

 

Pink
Pink is emotionally soothing and calming, and gives a feeling of gentle warmth and nurturing. It lessons feelings of irritation and aggression, surrounding us with a sense of love and protection. It also alleviates loneliness, despondency, oversensitivity, and vulnerability. While red relates to sexuality, pink is associated with unselfish love.

 

Red
Red is a powerful colour that has always been associated with vitality and ambition. It can help overcome negative thoughts. However, it is also associated with anger ; if we have too much red in our system, or around us, we may feel irritable, impatient, and uncomfortable.

 

Orange
Orange is a joyous colour. It frees and releases emotions and alleviates feelings of self-pity, lack of self worth, and unwillingness to forgive. It stimulates the mind, renewing interest in life. It is a wonderful anti-depressant and lifts the spirits. Apricot and Peach is good for nervous exhaustion

 

Indigo, Violet, and Purple
These have a deep affect on the psyche and have been used in psychiatric care to help calm & pacify patients suffering from a number of mental disorders and nervous disorders. These colours balance the mind and help transform obsessions and fears. Indigo is a powerful, psychic colour, stimulates intuition and imagination. It is also a strong sedative.

 

Violet and purple are colours of transformation at a very deep level, bringing peace and combating fear and shock. They have a cleansing effect in emotional disturbances. They are also connected with artistic and musical impulses, mystery, and sensitivity to beauty and high ideals, stimulating creativity, inspiration, sensitivity, spirituality and compassion. Violet can exert strong psychic influences, however, and a person attracted by it has to guard against living in a fantasy world. Purple is associated with psychic protection.

 

Silver
Silver is the colour of the moon, which is ever-changing. It relates to the feminine principle and the emotional, sensitive aspect of the mind. It balances, harmonizes, and is mentally cleansing.

 

Gold
Like yellow, gold is associated with the sun, and therefore related to abundance and power, higher ideals, wisdom, and understanding. It is mentally revitalizing, energizing and inspiring, and helpful for fear, uncertainty, and lack of interest. Pale gold is excellent for depression and sharpens the mind.

 

Yellow
Yellow is also a happy, bright, and uplifting colour, a celebration of sunny days. It is associated with the intellectual side of the mind, and the expression of thoughts. It therefore aids the powers of discernment  memory and clear thinking, decision making and good judgment. It also helps good organization, assimilation of new ideas, and the ability to see different points of view. It builds self-confidence and encourages an optimistic attitude. Conversely, dull yellow can be the colour of fear.

 

Turquoise
We associate blue greens with the refreshing and cool ocean. It is therefore invigorating, cooling, and calming. Like green, turquoise is good for mental strain and tiredness or feeling washed out. It is an elevating colour that encourages us to make a sparkling fresh start. Turquoise is also helpful for feelings of loneliness, since it heightens communication, sensitivity, and creativity

 

Green
Green has a strong affinity with nature, helping us connect with empathy to others and the natural world. We instinctively seek it out when under stress or experiencing emotional trauma. It creates a feeling of comfort, laziness and relaxation, calmness, and space, lessening stress, balancing and soothing the emotions.

 

Dark green represents the onset of death and is non-descript, unassertive, a negation of love and joy. Lime green and olive green can have a detrimental effect on both physical and emotional health since sickly yellow and green are associated with the emotions of envy, resentment, and possessiveness

 

Brown
The colour of Mother Earth, brown brings a sense of stability, alleviating insecurity. However, it also relates to bottling up of emotion, a retreat from and a fear of the outside world, and also narrow-mindedness. This often results from a lack of self-worth.
